DF Plumbing & Heating – The new Boiler Plus scheme

The Boiler Plus scheme has been introduced to help consumers ensure they are receiving safe and efficient energy options as it applies to both manufactures and installers.

The main point around these regulations is that there will now be a new minimum performance standard for domestic gas boilers in English homes of 92%. This is aiming to flush out low performing boilers across the country, helping to improve our energy efficiency as well as save consumers money.

Part of this process means that anyone who does install a new boiler will also have to have one of these fitted as well; Flue gas heat recovery systems, Weather Compensation, Load Compensation or Smart controls featuring automation and optimisation functions. These additions help improve your energy consumption even more, either by highlighting exactly how much energy you are using or adapting the energy consumption depending on the external weather conditions.

A key focus of this scheme is to help consumers save money, but not just that, it also aims to empower them to make educated and informed decisions about their heating options. For years it has been difficult for consumers to understand the ins and outs of their boiler options. By simplifying the options and stating specific requirements that the boilers need to have, allows consumers to check themselves and feel like they are part of the process.

There is a wider European effort to help cut carbon monoxide emissions by 2020, which has also influenced this scheme. By encouraging people to remove their old, less efficient boilers, makes way for installing new ‘greener’ boilers that use less energy and have higher energy conversion rates.
